The ancient Doria Castel and the fortified medieval town emerged in the 12th century and had the primary function to defend the internal part of the island. Under its original name, Castelgenovese, Castelsardo had its first period of prosperity. Under the sway of the spanish rulers, the town was named "Castelaragonese". Only in 1727, during the era of Piemont, the town got its actual name, Castelsardo. Today Castelsardo is metaphorically considered to be the jewel in the crown of northern Sardinia. Old alleyways and lots of shops with typical products of the region, delight the hearts of tourists from all over the world. The hotel Pedraladda and its staff are also looking forward to your visit.
